Is there really an environment friendly, non-toxic, chemical free way to keep toilet bowls clean?
WARNING: A Scientific explanation about toilet bowl water follows: The water inside your toilet tank either consists of potable drinking potable or non-potable water. These waters contain the ions of ferric and non-ferrous iron oxides, as well as calcium and magnesium sulfates and carbonates (commonly referred to as "minerals in the water"). These are in solution and consist of positive ions of iron, magnesium and calcium, as well as negatively charged ions of carbonate, sulfate and oxides.The positively charged and negatively charged ions attract each other forming molecules that stick together.
These molecules sticking together form a salt which plates out as a discoloration and hard crusty-like material that can become a toilet bowl ring. We normally refer to this as “stain” and “scale”. And, of course, this is what we try to minimize in our toilets when using toxic bleaching tabs or drop-ins to remove them or prevent them from appearing.
What happens when toilet tank water is exposed to magnets?
When this water is exposed to the magnetic field created by the two Mineral Magnets in the ChemFree Toilet Bowl Cleaner there is an effect in the outer ring of each atom of the Minerals in the Water. This effect changes the valance of the atoms of the Minerals in the Water. This change of valance makes the atoms repel each other preventing the binding of atoms into molecules, hence preventing the forming of a salt, “stains” and “scale”. A small percentage of the atoms will still convert into molecules, but since the outer ring has been modified they would tend to remain soft, and not convert into a “stain” or “scale” or stick to surfaces. Inside a toilet tank and toilet bowl these modified atoms and molecules remain in suspension in the water and instead of sticking to the side of the toilet bowl they get flushed out with every flush.
So how bad are the toilet bowl cleaners that are in the stores?
According to the Center for Science and Environmental Outreach at Michigan Technological University, liquid toilet bowl cleaners contain dangerous chemicals such as hydrochloric, phosphoric or oxalic acid to dissolve minerals and remove stains. These acids irritate mucous membranes and skin, cause respiratory tract inflammation if inhaled and are fatal if swallowed. Oxalic acid causes skin burning, convulsions and even kidney damage.
So, what does this mean?
Using the Chemfree toilet bowl cleaner minimizes the need (and generally eliminates it) of using bleach or other toxic cleansers for cleaning your toilet bowl. E3 Living has been selling this product for 4 years and our family has been personally using it for that time as well. And while it does not eliminate the occasional need to brush the toilet clean we have never had to use any toxic or bleach cleaners to clean our toilet bowl since. Just a light brushing once in a while is all it takes.
Let's be realistic.
Toilets don't clean themselves. You can't just throw the Chemfree Toilet Bowl Cleaner into your toilet tank and expect a miracle. You do need to start out with a clean toilet and remove the existing stain and scale if it exists. In fact, there are some home remedies you can use that are non-toxic. Here's an easy reciepe that can help get you to that "start-up" clean. After that, just drop a Chemfree toilet bowl cleaner into that tank and you should find that it won't be that much of a task anymore.
What You Will Need:
- White vinegar
- Clean toilet brush
- Baking soda
- Spray or squirt bottle
- Warm water
Steps to Cleaning your Toilet:
- Add vinegar to a squirt bottle. For bowls with obvious stains or grime, apply full strength.
- Spray or squirt the bowl with the vinegar.
- Allow it to sit for several minutes (or up to overnight for really dirty toilets).
- Scrub the bowl with the clean toilet brush.
- Flush to remove the dirty water and vinegar.
- If stains remain, make a paste of baking soda and warm water and apply to the bowl. Allow it to sit overnight, then scrub clean with a brush.

It is a well known fact that two magnets placed at a certain distance of each other produce a magnetic field which lasts for hundreds of years without any appreciable loss of strength. The effect of these magnets will last well over 100 years, with a decrease in effectiveness of approximately 1% after on hundred years. These observations have been made over the past thirty years and have included extended discussions with Dr. Henry Seligman and Dr. Kenneth Beswick, respectively Director and Deputy Director of the United Nations Nuclear Energy Laboratories in Vienna (1992) who were the two leading physicists in the world at that time. This magnet technology in water anti-scaling systems has been proven in heavy industry, and has been used for many decades. The system used is one consisting of permanent magnets mounted inside huge water and other liquid tanks, and around the inlet water pipes to exchangers in hydroelectric plants to prevent scaling. These magnets, used for decades, have not shown any indications of diminishing effectiveness or power. Where these systems are installed no scaling occurs in the inner plumbing tubes, or in the walls of the tanks, so that these thanks must be cleaned only once every ten years. Other exchangers not using the magnets must be cleaned every 6 months.
